If you didn’t get a chance to read Cate McQuaid’s review of our current exhibition, Refresh, in last week’s Wednesday edition of the Boston Globe, it can be found online here.

Speaking of press, the Press section of our website is terribly outdated.  This will be the first task of any interns coming in this fall.  If interning (or volunteering) is something you are interested in, shoot us an email at info@axiomart.org

AXIOM Presents: REFRESH
Opening Reception: Friday, July 23rd, 2010 | 6:00 – 9:00 pm

Axiom Center for New and Experimental Media is pleased to present Refresh, an exhibition of video and animation work that explores an alternative aesthetic in digital media artwork. Refresh features a group of artists that all ask the viewer to reevaluate our collective definition of digital beauty and the value we place on visual quality in contemporary culture.

Spanning from 8bit and ascii animations to manipulated digital video, this exhibition creates an aesthetic and conceptual dialogue that allows us to question conventions of digital media in our society as well as our relationship to new and past technology.  The artists included in this exhibition evoke notions of nostalgia, document unintended artifacts, and experiment with new technologies.  In doing so, these artists create a refreshingly alternative digital practice that functions outside of the mainstream aesthetic.

Artists in the show include: Nick Briz, Michelle Ceja, Clint Ennis, Elna Frederick, Doug Goodwin and Rebecca Baron, Duncan Malashock, Rosa Menkman, Andrew Rosinski, and Nicolas Sassoon.  This exhibition is curated by Yuri Stone.

Refresh will be on view July 23 – August 28, 2010

Path to Ground:  An Exhibition of Electronic Artworks curated by Dana Moser and Fred Wolflink

On View:  June 11, 2010 – July 10, 2010
Opening Reception: Friday, June 11
Live Performance Night: Thursday, June 24

“Path to Ground” is an exhibition of interactive, kinetic, installation and sound art created by students working in the Electronic Projects curriculum of MassArt’s Studio for Interrelated Media (SIM).  The title refers to a fundamental property of electricity: that it flows “to ground” through the path of least resistance. The term “ground” in an electrical circuit is a relative one, however, and has a variety of meanings. The works curated by Dana Moser and Fred Wolflink have a variety of artistic sensibilities: humorous, scientific, political and pop-cultural.

Artists in the show include: Olivia Becker, Alex Black, Patrick Chaney, Daniel Mooradian, Kim O’Toole, Paige Peterson, Jacky Sharp, Matej Vakula, and Joseph Wight

More information and images will be posted leading up to the opening of the exhibition.  Stay tuned.

Hi All!  Welcome to the new website for the Axiom Center for New and Experimental Art.  We have been working on putting together the new site for a while and there are still a few loose screws and some changes that need to be made.  Give us a week or two to smooth out any problems.  In the meantime, feel free to look around, follow us on Twitter, or dig through the archives.
